About Us

AYA Educational Institute takes its name from the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol of the same name. AYA educates, researches, consults and facilitates. We feature classes and projects for adults and youth. We are dedicated to restoring Afrikan people - the world over to our traditional greatness and turning the world right-side-up again to make our ancestors proud. Teaching and using our Warriors, Healers, and Builders mindset and skill sets is key to our achieving that mission.

In 1998 Wekesa and Afiya Madzimoyo synthesized their previous work and research in the areas of social work, psychology, Afrikan and Afrikan American studies, and education into what we now call AYA.

Knowledge gleaned from prior projects like Freedom Days, The Montgomery Black Film Project, "OurStory For Our Success" also were key to the foundation of our Institute that seeks to combine the wisdom derived from the practical real-world application with research, teaching, and projection.
